Back With A Vengeance

Break out the caffeine because Monday is back.

Break out the caffeine because Monday is back.

Show today who’s the boss,

The Last Night’s Game Team

MLB (MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL)

Celebratory cheese curds. We’re in the midst of the MLB playoffs and something is brewing in Wisconsin. The Milwaukee Brewers proved to be too tough for the Colorado Rockies; sweeping them to head into the next round of the playoffs. There are still plenty of teams in the race. PICK YOUR PONY

OVERTIME

One Houston Astros (MLB) fan learned the hard way never to bet against your own team. After a home run by the Astros’ Jose Altuve, the fan made a bet with his section that if the next Astros player at the plate hit a home run, he’d buy beer for the whole section. Well as you can imagine, the Astros prevailed and this fan learned a $500 lesson. DILLY DILLY

SIDELINE STAT

What is 329 pounds and can run like the wind? Okay maybe it's more like a light breeze. That’s Minnesota Vikings’ (NFL) Linval Joseph. The big defensive lineman found himself on the other end of an interception in yesterday’s game and ran the ball back for a 64-yard touchdown. Call us impressed. IT’S LIKE TRYING TO STOP A TRAIN

COACHES’ CORNER

No surprise that there was drama in the highly anticipated UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fight on Saturday night. Conor McGregor lost by submission to Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov (reminder – he is the fighter who trains by wrestling live bears). Chaos ensued after the fight when Nurmagomedov decided to jump out of the octagon and go after a McGregor teammate. ONE WIN WASN’T ENOUGH

What does it mean to lose by submission? It’s when the fighter throws in the towel by tapping out or saying they’re done to avoid injury or passing out from a hold. HE WAS A SLEEPY BEAR

Around The World

It’s the weekend and time to take off into the high-flying excitement of infinite sports knowledge.

It’s the weekend and time to take off into the high-flying excitement of infinite sports knowledge.

Soaring above the rest,

The Last Night’s Game Team

PS - Time for this week's tailgating favorite. Break out your meds because this one is good for the soul, but maybe not for the cholesterol levels. BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP

MLB (Major League Baseball)

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. The playoffs are underway and there will be a special pint-sized guest at the Cleveland Indians vs. Houston Astros game- little Astros fan Chloe. She was scolded by another fan for cheering too loudly at a game and the video went viral. The Astros took notice and Chloe is not only going to the game but had a chance to meet her baseball heroes earlier this week. SMALL BUT MIGHTY

Overtime

Soul Plane has nothing on Mark Cuban.  As part of the NBA’s efforts to reach its global fans, the Dallas Mavericks and the Philadelphia 76ers are playing two games in China. Don’t fret, the Mavs didn’t have to fly coach, they flew in style on a first class private plane complete with a buffet, bar and plenty of room to stretch those long legs out. HIGH ALTITUDE BALLIN’

Sideline stat

They say actions are greater than words and in this case a Chicago Cubs (MLB) fan had to live up to both. Back in May he tweeted out that he would send a 1,000-word apology letter to Milwaukee Brewers fans if their team finished above his Cubs in the division. Well, the Cubs missed out on a spot in the playoffs when they lost in a winner-take-all game to the Brewers. INSERT FOOT IN MOUTH

Coaches’ Corner

This weekend is the biggest fight of the year for UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). Taking the octagon is Khabib Nurmagomedov, an undefeated Russian fighter who practices by wrestling live bears. He’ll fight Conor McGregor, who boxed Floyd Mayweather last year and is #4 on the Forbes list of highest paid athletes. McGregor also has a new addition in his life, Proper 12 whiskey, his company which is a sponsor of the fight. BOTTOMS UP

What to watch

The NHL (National Hockey League) is also going global with a game between the Edmonton Oilers and the New Jersey Devils on Sunday in Sweden. No word on if the teams’ transportation rivaled the Mavericks (above).  THIS PLANE IS ALREADY TAKEN

The Last Night’s Game Team

NFL (National Football League)

Insert foot in mouth. Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton worked himself into a bit of a pickle at a press conference this week for laughing off a strategy question by a female sports reporter. There has been fierce backlash for dissing the sports talking woman. He has since been dropped by a major sponsor and released an apology video.

MLB (Major League Baseball)

It’s the playoffs baby. Pitcher Justin Verlander (fiancé is actress and model Kate Upton) pitched the Houston Astros to a game one win over the Boston Red Sox in the playoffs. While you pretend to work, there are four playoff baseball games on today starting at 2 pm (EST). SCHEDULE AND RESULTS.

Overtime

If the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight taught us anything, it’s that the money is in the ring. Maybe that’s the motivation for former boxer and grill creator, George Foreman, who challenged martial arts expert turned actor turned law enforcement, Steven Seagal, to a boxing match. What’s next? Jackie Chan vs. The Rock?

Sideline stat

We’ve had four weeks of NFL football and there is only one undefeated team left, the Kansas City Chiefs. This weekend they take on the Houston Texans, whose phenom quarterback Deshaun Watson gave his first NFL check to stadium workers impacted by Harvey. NFL SCHEDULE

Coaches’ corner

To honor the victims of the mass shooting in Las Vegas, UNLV (University of Nevada – Las Vegas) will wear special helmets during this weekend’s home football game. They will feature a red ribbon and the city’s name instead of the normal logo.
