When there's no place like home. We’re in week two of the NFL playoffs with games on Saturday and Sunday. The temperature isn’t the only thing that’s dropping in Minnesota this weekend. The Minnesota Vikings are hoping to break the streak of no team ever playing a Super Bowl in their home stadium. Dropping the New Orleans Saints this weekend is their first step toward that goal. NBA (National Basketball Association)
When you act like you don’t have a favorite child but you really do. It’s all-star voting time in the NBA and Steph Curry (Golden State Warriors) and LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers) have taken the lead as the top vote getters for their conference. Don’t like them at the top? You can still cast your ballot. Voting ends on January 18th. VOTE
Overtime
Indy car drivers Alexander Rossi and Conor Daly are on this season of The Amazing Race. If that’s not impressive enough, they had to dress like French fries as part of one of the challenges. Would you like fries with that? PIC
Sideline stat
The NFL playoff game between the New England Patriots and the Tennessee Titans features the largest age gap in NFL playoff history between the starting quarterbacks. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is 40 and his Titans counterpart Marcus Mariota is 24.
Coaches’ corner
The newest team in the NHL, the Vegas Golden Knights, have been impressive on the ice and now their legal team is joining the ranks. The Army filed opposition to the team’s trademark application saying that the name and colors are too close to their Golden Knights parachute team. The team’s response was classic with one line stating, “we are not aware of a single complaint from anyone attending our games that they were expecting to see the parachute team and not a professional hockey game.” FULL STATEMENT

College football
If your friend is the Maverick to your Ice Man. This weekend is the storied Army – Navy game in Philadelphia. The regular season is over for most teams but these aren’t two ordinary teams. Both teams will wear special snazzy uniforms for this 127-year old respectful rivalry. PICS - ARMY VS NAVY

MLS (Major League Soccer)
When you’re not quite dressed right for the weather. The MLS Championship is this Saturday and we bet those soccer players are wishing they played football for all the extra gear. The Seattle Sounders are playing the Toronto FC (Football Club) in Toronto where it’s going to be a balmy 34 degrees at kickoff with a 70% chance of snow.
Overtime
Olympic gold medal gymnast Simone Biles will be the first honorary cheerleader for her hometown Houston Texans (NFL – National Football League) this weekend. She’ll even get to wear the legendary red boots. The boots dreams are made of.
Sideline stat
The Cleveland Browns (NFL) are on their way to a winless football season. One of their fans has raised the required $10,000 to throw them a victory-less parade should they finish without a win. His fundraising efforts were completed by a $7,683 donation from Excedrin, the headache medication. Apparently the Browns give them a headache too.

Don’t forget that the Heisman Trophy ceremony is Saturday night, recognizing the best in college football. It’s not simply a boring awards show. (Okay maybe it is but there’s more excitement to it than just an award show). Check out Five Things To Know About The Heisman here.

It may be Monday, but you’re one step closer to the start of football season. If you’re not into football, that means the stores will be less crowded on Sundays and all you have to do is read The Rundown to stay in the loop.

Soccer
- Took it a step too far. It was quite the day for Cristiano Ronaldo. In Sunday’s El Clasico game between Real Madrid and Barcelona, he scored a goal and celebrated by removing his shirt to mock rival player Lionel Messi. Then it all went downhill. Ronaldo shoved a referee and was subsequently ejected. He could receive a 12-game suspension for the shove. He should’ve stopped at the shirtless celebration.
MLB (Major League Baseball)
- A first. For the first time ever, a graduate from West Point played in an MLB game. Chris Rowley was the starting pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday and he not only brought home a win for his team but paved the way for other Army grads to take the field.
- Slippery little suckers. Baseball’s most recognized current player, Washington Nationals’ Bryce Harper, slipped on a wet base in a game this weekend and suffered a knee bone bruise. He’s out of the game until it heals.
Overtime
- In the final major of the season, 24-year-old Justin Thomas pulled off a win at the PGA (Professional Golfers Association) Championship. Thomas is a third-generation PGA member. Justin’s grandfather and father are longtime PGA professionals. (A PGA membership is one that you have to qualify for by being a great golfer).
Sideline stat
- Gavin and Joe Maloof know sports. The wealthy entrepreneurs owned the Sacramento Kings (NBA – National Basketball Association) but now they’re jumping into the ring. The Las Vegas based brothers bet a whopping $880,000 on their neighbor Floyd Mayweather in the upcoming fight between Mayweather and Conor McGregor. If they win, they’ll give their $160,000 in profits to charity.
Coaches’ corner
- The last race in runner Usain Bolt’s career did not have a Disney-style ending. In the relay at the World Championships, he pulled a hamstring and did not finish. It may have not been the ending he wanted but he had a stellar career that speaks for itself.
